Online Therapy in FL, RI, ME, CT, MD and SC: How It Works

July 28, 2026 · 5 min read

Online therapy removes the commute, the waiting room, and often the biggest barrier of all: finding a therapist who's the right fit nearby. Here's how it works in my practice.

Where I can see clients

Therapists are licensed by state, and you need to be physically located in a state where your therapist holds a license during sessions. I work with adults located in Florida, Rhode Island, Maine, Connecticut, Maryland and South Carolina.

What you need for a session

  • A private space where you won't be overheard, a room, a parked car, headphones.
  • A stable internet connection and a device with a camera.
  • A secure, HIPAA-compliant video link, sent before your appointment.

Does online therapy work as well as in person?

For most adults working on anxiety, trauma and relationship patterns, research over the last decade has found online therapy comparably effective to in-person care. EMDR, parts work and somatic approaches all adapt well to video.

Cost and out-of-network benefits

I'm a private-pay practice, which keeps your care between us rather than shaped by an insurance company's requirements. If you have out-of-network benefits, I can provide a superbill you can submit to your insurer for possible reimbursement. It's worth calling the number on your card and asking what your plan reimburses for out-of-network outpatient mental health.

How to start

The first step is a free 15-minute consultation call: a chance to describe what's going on, ask questions, and see whether we're a good fit before committing to anything.
